BERLIN, Oct 2 (Reuters) – The top of Volkswagen’s works council needs the carmaker to convey ahead manufacturing of electrical autos at its predominant plant in Wolfsburg to 2024 make it extra aggressive, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The Braunschweiger Zeitung quoted works council chief Daniela Cavallo as saying a worldwide chip scarcity and the COVID-19 pandemic had been decreasing output on the plant this 12 months and it wanted to make a brand new mannequin to safe its competitiveness.

“The location wants a sooner path to e-mobility,” the newspaper quoted Cavallo as saying, including this could happed in 2024.

Beneath its Trinity challenge, VW has been growing a flagship electrical sedan to be constructed at Wolfsburg from 2026.

Producing electrical autos in Wolfsburg sooner would handle capability utilisation points which might be inflicting fears within the workforce on the plant, the place staff are on “Kurzarbeit” reduced-hours shifts, the paper reported Cavallo as saying.
