WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – U.S. job openings fell in August, however remained considerably excessive amid labor shortages which might be crimping employment progress.

Job openings, a measure of labor demand, dropped 659,000 to 10.4 million on the final day of August, the Labor Division stated in its month-to-month Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS report, on Tuesday.

Hiring decreased 439,000 to six.3 million.

The federal government reported final Friday that nonfarm payrolls elevated by solely 194,000, the smallest achieve since December 2020, after rising 366,000 million in August.
